The high trapeze, ice cold water, sky diving and eating a 5-pound pizza in one sitting were just some of the many surprise tasks an international selection of teams had to complete in the first City Chase World Champs. Teams from the UK, Australia and Canada raced 36-hours in the Chicago area for a chance to win a pair of Volvo cars.

Tom Ford drives the new Volvo C30 Sports Coupe. Renowned for their practicality, build quality and safety, the Swedish car maker is not generally recognised for its appreciation of style. But all that could change with the C30.
This “sportier” hatchback has a 1.5 litre T5 petrol turbo engine delivering 216 bhp, a top speed of 149mph and a 0-60 time of just 6.2 seconds. Volvo claim the C30 has “a unique style and character” and they’re aiming it at a younger, busier customer, but will it work? Tom delivers his verdict - have Volvo has finally built a groovy car?

This is a video I took, in March of ‘07, of me cold-starting and driving my car. It’s a 1984 Volvo 240 DL, but it’s the ultra-rare diesel edition. Volvo made VERY few of these cars, and they did so only for a short period (four or five years out of the 240 series’ 20 year run).
The engine is an inline 6-cylinder diesel, made by Volkswagen/Audi. Volvo purchased the diesel engines from VW and used them, instead of making their own. Go figure.
This car is in showroom condition…probably the only one on the east coast. It starts right up, as you can see in this movie.
This engine is actually really fast and powerful, unlike most diesel cars. It accelerates just as fast as my Audi did.
This vid isn’t so great. It’s hard to find a good place to put the camera so that you can see the car well. Oh well.
Enjoy!
