US 2015 budget proposal, energy strategy and national security
Secretary Moniz has emphasised that the US President海角吃瓜网檚 budget request for the Energy Department continues the commitment to a low carbon future, improved energy infrastructure resilience, US science and technology leadership and stronger national security. The request represents a 2.6% increase above FY 2014 enacted levels and reflects the reorganisation of the Energy Department into three Under Secretariats, mirroring the Department海角吃瓜网檚 focus areas.
Management and R&D
The budget is requesting a crosscutting program initiative that tap the Department海角吃瓜网檚 full capability to effectively and efficiently address the national energy, environmental, and security challenges. To focus resources and management coordination on new and ongoing R&D, the Department is proposing crosscutting initiatives funded in various program offices and managed jointly:
- Unified grid modernisation strategy.
- Research and development in Science and NNSA.
- Research, development and demonstration of SCO2 technologies.
- Activities to strengthen the protection of DOE from cyber attacks.
- Subsurface projects.
Climate action plan, science and technology
The President海角吃瓜网檚 budget request is particularly focused on the US DOD playing a key role in achieving the Climate Action Plan and in keeping the US at the forefront of science and technology innovation by:
- Supporting clean energy technologies as part of the all of the above energy strategy.
- Quadrennial Energy Review.
- US$ 2 billion to be allocated over the next 10 years from existing federal oil and gas development revenue for the Energy Security Trust.
- Support the nation海角吃瓜网檚 net oil import goals to 2020.
Budget highlights
- US$ 2.3 billion for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.
- US$ 325 million for the Advanced Research Projects Agency.
- US$ 475 million for Fossil Energy R&D.
- US$ 123 million for the Energy Delivery and Reliability.
- US$ 123 million for the EIA.
- US$ 5.6 billion for Environmental Management.
